He was killed at the battle of Kettle Hill near San Juan, Cuba, during the Spanish American War. Buckey's wife, Pauline, was the sister of Linette Young/Bremmer, and my great-great grandmother. Aunt Pauline gave a signed copy of a book entitled, Buckey O'Neill, by Ralph Keithly, published in 1949, to my Great Uncle Bob along with her father's obituary dated July 5,1908 and a letter from her son Maurice O'Neill with his fathers leather dressing recipe enclosed in the back of the book.
